Ink Stamps – Some Tips For Begineers
Ok if you are new to the arts and crafts, you may be wondering to yourself: What is so great about ink stamps? I mean it’s just something you stamp on a card or paper right? What else is there to it?
Alright first off, ink stamps are much more than that. They come in a great variety of designs and sizes. This means you can release your inner creative energies and get really crazy with what you want to do in terms of art. Secondly, ink stamping is a popular hobby and you can connect with like-minded people (check out forums or groups) who are also into ink stamps. Great relationships can develop from these stimulated interactions.
Now with that short introduction on why you should take up ink stamps, let’s take a look at what ink stamps are and how to start using them. First off, ink stamps basically contain a print design which when you stamp (duh) it on a piece of paper, imprints whatver design that is onto it. Now usually the ink stamp themselves can have self-contained ink cartridges. Some you will need to get a separate ink pad for it.
Whichever is the case, here is a tip on the kind of ink stamps you should get as a beginner – self-inking stamps. This is great for a few reasons. One, they are flexible and can be seperated in different parts pretty quick. This means you can just reload the ink cartridge once it runs out. Secondly, you don’t have to go out of the way to purchase an ink pad and constantly keep re-inking it whenever you are in the middle of an art work. I know since some beigineers may get impatient or fustrated by the constant re-inking they have to do. Another thing is that for self-inking stamps, the ‘print-out’ is consistent. Due to it’s spring-loaded mechnism, you get the same pressure and colour print everytime. If you were using the old style ink stamps, you may get inconsistent pressure an print out as it depends greatly on your hand pressure. You also risk inconsistent colouring as the ink runs dry and some of the printed designs look faded.
These are just some quick pointers for new beginners who are diving into the fun world of ink stamping. Make it enjoyable and you will learn fast. The rewards for ink stamping can be sastifying when you finally finish that piece of art work you were working on. It’s great to feel that you have created something yourself.
